Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance, contemporary or modern dance stands for the aesthetic distinction to the classical ballet. It includes demanding training for children, adolescents and adults. New dance elements from different dance styles are learned. The objective here is to use the muscles as efficiently as possible – maximum freedom of movement combined with the lowest level of muscle tension. The impulses of motion can originate from any point in the body, with a continuous flow of movement being just as important as clarity of form. This dance typically shows a strong emphasis on floorwork, although the conscious exploitation of gravity by the dancer may also result in explosive leaps, turns and and sudden plunges.
